Professor Roeland Nolte (1944-2024)

It is with great sadness that the University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study (USIAS) has received the news that Professor Roeland Nolte, member of its Scientific Advisory Board, passed away on Thursday 15 February 2024.

Professor Nolte was Emeritus Professor of Organic Chemistry at Radboud University (The Netherlands), and member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), where he held a special chair in Chemistry. He was considered one of the pioneers in the field of supramolecular chemistry and published numerous studies on supramolecular assembly, biomimetic catalysts, and their applications in the field of nanomaterials and medicine. His awards included the prestigious Izatt-Christensen Award for his studies in macrocyclic and supramolecular chemistry, and the Linstead Career Award in Phthalocyanine Chemistry.
