USIAS fellows appointed as 2025 senior members of the Institut universitaire de France

Guido Pupillo, Paolo Samorì and Joseph Schacherer have been appointed as senior members of the Institut universitaire de France (IUF) for a period of five years from 1 October 2025. They are among the group of ten new members from the University of Strasbourg (five senior and five junior). Two other former fellows currently working in France have also been elected as senior members: Lionel Obadia and Franck Fischbach.

  • Guido Pupillo (2019 Fellow) is professor of physics and Director of the European Center for Quantum Sciences (CESQ) at the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering (ISIS). 
  • Paolo Samorì (2020 Fellow) is professor of chemistry at ISIS, which he directed from 2012-2023 and where he heads the Nanochemistry Laboratory.
  • Joseph Schacherer (2017 Fellow) is professor of genetics and genomics at the Laboratory for Molecular Genetics, Genomics and Microbiology (GMGM), where he leads the team for Intraspecific variation and genome evolution.
  • Franck Fischbach (2020 Fellow) is professor of the history of German philosophy at the Pantheon-Sorbonne University of Paris, at its Centre of History of Modern Philosophy (HIPHIMO).
  • Lionel Obadia (2014 Fellow) is professor of anthropology at the University of Lyon 2, where he is part of the Laboratory of Historical Research - Rhône-Alpes (LARHRA).

The mission of the IUF is to encourage the development of high-level research in universities and strengthen interdisciplinary through three main objectives: to encourage institutions and academic teachers/researchers to achieve excellence in research, to promote and support women in science and to contribute to a balanced distribution of university research in France.
