Barbara Cassin Prize award ceremony
The Barbara Cassin Prize for Research and Translation was established by the Alsace Inter-University House for the Social Sciences and Humanities (MISHA) and the University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study (USIAS). This annual prize, that is being awarded for the first time in 2025, funds the translation into English of a recent monograph published by a researcher at the University of Strasbourg.
Its aim is to support the international visibility and impact of research publications from the Strasbourg research community in the social sciences and humanities. The 2026 call will be launched during the ceremony.
The prize is named in honour of Professor Barbara Cassin, a renowned specialist in the power of words and the force of language, member of the French Academy and author of, among other works, the "Dictionary of Untranslatables: A Philosophical Lexicon" (2004, English version in 2014).
She will present the prize to Anthony Mangeon, professor of French literature at the University of Strasbourg, for his book “L’Afrique au futur. Le renversement des mondes” (2022).
The laureate will give a short lecture, followed by an exchange with Barbara Cassin. The award ceremony will be followed by a cocktail reception.
