Inaugural Lecture - Pascal Mayer, honorary Chair at USIAS
Pluridisciplinarity at Work: From Next Generation DNA Sequencing to Next Generation Therapeutics
By Pascal Mayer, associated professor at the University of Strasbourg & CEO & CSO of Alphanosos, Honorary Chair at the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Strasbourg, Breakthrough Prize and Gairdner Award Laureate.
Abstract
Scientific breakthroughs often emerge at the intersection of disciplines. From the conceptual inception of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to the development of Next Generation Therapeutics, this talk highlights the power of transdisciplinary thinking. The Lemanic branch of NGS played a crucial but often overlooked role in revolutionizing DNA sequencing, laying the groundwork for modern genomics. Moving beyond sequencing, traditional drug discovery faces limitations due to toxicity, resistance, and inefficacy. At Alphanosos, we use AI-driven network polypharmacology to design synergistic botanical mixes that are safe, effective, and sustainable. Our ICLEDA DNA amplification technology also opens new possibilities for DNA computing-based artificial brains, offering low-power, EM-resistant bio-inspired computing. By integrating genomics, AI, and drug discovery, we challenge conventional paradigms in both medicine and computation. This presentation showcases how cross-disciplinary innovation is key to tackling healthcare challenges and shaping the future of technology.
