Pierre Schaaf

Pierre Schaaf got an engineering degree from the Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielles de la ville de Paris (ESPCI) in 1982 and a PhD in Physical-Chemistry from the University Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg in 1986. He performed most of his research career at the Institut Charles Sadron (ICS, CNRS) at Strasbourg and was ap- pointed Full Professor in 1991 at the Chemistry Engineering School of Strasbourg (ECPM) and is now Director of the INSERM laboratory “Biomaterials and Bioengineering” (U1121) and remains associate researcher at ICS. He is also senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France. His research interests include polyelectrolyte multilayers, stimuli-responsive and bioactive films, polyelectrolyte complex materials and soft-mechano chemistry.

As part of his fellowship, Pierre Schaaf is working on the project Development of model mechano-transduction films based on engineered avidin monomers: An example of soft-mechano-chemistry, together with his collaborator Stefan Schiller.
