Pertti Alasuutari

Pertti AlasuutariPertti Alasuutari is Professor of Sociology at the University of Tampere and Academy Professor at the Academy of Finland. Professor Alasuutari's research concerns the cultural aspects of social life and especially in their links to power and politics. His areas of specialization are everyday life and identity construction, media reception and audiences, cultural dimensions of globalization, social and cultural theory, and methodology of social research. In his scholarly work, empirically driven research approach is combined with theory-building that serves the understanding of the human reality.His current research projects deal with the harmonization of global social change and with the domestication of ubiquitous communication.

Professor Alasuutari is a Knight first class in the Order of the White Rose of Finland (2006). He is a Permanent Member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, and Executive Board Member of the European Sociological Association. In 2014 he was awarded the Professor of the Year Prize by the Finnish Union of University Professors. He is co-editor (with Ali Qadir) of the book National Policy Making: Domestication of Global (Routledge 2014) and author of the book The Synchronization of National Policies (Routledge, forthcoming).
