Vipul Patel, Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), completed his medical school education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston (Texas, USA) and his residency and fellowship training at the University of Miami in Florida. Subsequently, Dr. Patel served as director of the Robotic Surgery Program at Ohio State University in Columbus.
Currently he is the medical director of both the Global Robotics Institute and the Urologic Oncology Program of the Cancer Institute at AdventHealth Celebration. He is a professor of urology at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, and a clinical associate professor of urology at Nova Southeastern University.
Vipul Patel serves as an honorary professor at the University of Milan (Italy) and Korea University. He is the founder of the International Prostate Cancer Foundation, founding member of the Society of Robotic Surgery, editor emeritus of the Journal of Robotic Surgery and editor of the first-ever robotic urology textbook. Dr Patel was also named to the Stanford University/Elsevier Publishing top 2% of scientists in the world in 2021.
Dr. Patel is world-renowned for his contribution to the field of robotic surgery and prostate cancer. He leads one of the world’s most experienced robotic surgery teams and travels around the globe to educate physicians and care for patients.
Dr Patel is now focusing on a Global Humanitarian effort for Healthcare Equity. He is working with robotics and telecom to enhance telesurgical capabilities to provide advanced healthcare in a cost effective manner to remote and underserved areas.
During his time in Strasbourg as USIAS associated chair, Vipul Patel will be hosted by Professor Jacques Marescaux at the Research Institute against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD).
