MATH'N POP conference-concert on music and mathematics

17 December 2019

The video recording of the live conference-concert “Math'n Pop” performed by mathemusician Moreno Andreatta, 2017 USIAS fellow and researcher in mathematics, is available for viewing.

On the occasion of the launch of the Year of Mathematics by the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences and their Interactions (INSMI) in October 2019, Moreno Andreatta gave a conference-concert “Math'n Pop” at the Sorbonne University in Paris. The actor and author, Laurent Mandeix, accompanied him. The conference was also endorsed by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) as part of its 80th anniversary celebrations.

The live performance was attuned to questions asked by personalities from the world of academia, art and culture, as well as from the general public. The show made use of the Tonnetz environment developed within the Moreno Andreatta’s USIAS project Structural Music Information Research (SMIR), which was based on the interplay between algebra, topology and category theory, three mathematical disciplines, in computational musicology.
