Schmucker

Stéphane Schmucker has done his PhD in the laboratory of Dr. Helene Puccio at the IGBMC in Illkirch, for which he obtained a French government fellowship. During his thesis, he was interested in the understanding of the pathophysiology of Friedreich ataxia, a neurodegenerative genetic disease. He passed his PhD diploma in the Strasbourg University in 2010. After a postdoctoral experience at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel, he is recruited in the lab of Dr. Izabela Sumara at the IGBMC in 2012, which is interested in the comprehension of mechanisms controlling mitosis. His project, supported by the USIAS, aims at characterizing the post-translational regulation of Polo-Like Kinase 1 (PLK1), an essential enzyme for the mitotic process, during the development of organisms. This approach will open new therapeutical strategies for cancer treatment as mitosis is misregulated in this disease.
