Birgit Metzger

git Metzger studied Cultural Studies at Saarland University (Saarbrücken) and at Université Laval (Québec) before majoring in Contemporary History at Saarland University. She received her diploma in 2006 with a thesis that focused on creative milieus in urban environments. In 2012 she completed her PhD at the University of Freiburg with a thesis on Waldsterben (forest dieback) as a key political issue in West-Germany in the 1980s. From 2012 to 2015 she was a lecturer for Contemporary European History at Saarland University. Her research focuses on environmental history, social movements, the history of risks, transnational history and popular cultures. She is particularly interested in the relations between science, culture and politics in the 20th century.
