Ovidiu Ersen

Professor Ovidiu Ersen is a faculty member of the physics and engineering department at the Strasbourg University, UNISTRA. Since 2014, he belongs, as a junior member, to the “Institut Universitaire de France” that distinguishes excellence in research. He received his education degrees, first at the University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and then at the Strasbourg University were he passed a master and a PhD thesis in physics and materials science. As an Assistant Professor, he joined the Institute for Physics and Chemistry of Materials in Strasbourg (IPCMS) in 2003 with the aim of creating a research team dedicated to the study of nanomaterials at the nanoscale using electron microscopy. By combining electron tomography with electron energy loss spectroscopy he pioneered chemical analysis at the nanoscale. His present scientific interest goes along two lines: studying nanomaterials and nano-structures under realistic thermodynamical conditions, developing new 3D-imaging technics allowing quantitative analyses.

As part of his fellowship, Ovidiu Ersen is working on the project Dynamical electron tomography at the atomic scale, with his collaborator with John Miao.
