Nikita Markarian

Professor Nikita Markarian was awarded a Candidate of science degree (PhD) in mathematics from the Steklov Mathematical Institute (Moscow) in 1999. After postdoc positions at the École normale supérieure (ENS) in Paris, and the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom), he worked at the Faculty of Mathematics of HSE University of Moscow from 2010 to 2022. Author of over ten papers on algebraic geometry and algebraic topology, Professor Markarian’s current research is at the cutting edge of many fields of modern topology and algebraic geometry and is strongly connected with modern mathematical physics.

After a period at the University of Montpellier, he is currently hosted by and working with 2021 USIAS Fellow, Dr. Vladimir Dotsenko at IRMA – the Institute for Advanced Mathematical Research of the University of Strasbourg. During his visit, Nikita Markarian will be working on two main topics, both of which relate to certain areas of fundamental mathematics: (i) higher generalizations of co-homological field theories and (ii) relations between MZVs (multiple zeta values). In addition, he will give a mini-course on his work on MZVs, and be one of the keynote speakers at the colloquium "Higher algebraic, geometric and topological structures" that is scheduled for the last week in May 2023.
